The United States gives $5 million for drought assistance

U.S. Embassy Supports UNICEF
Ambassador Powell represented the U.S. Embassy at a UNICEF ceremony launching a school insertion plan for child workers on December 12 at a public elementary school in the El Mina section of the capital city. The U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott illustrated its commitment to working with the government of Mauritania, international organizations, and local civil society to enhance the protection of human rights in Mauritania by contributing $500,000 (145 million ouguiya) to UNICEF in 2010 to Care for Child Victims of Slavery and Trafficking in Mauritania.
