| Ambassador Mark Boulware |
I am pleased and honored to serve as the representative of the President of the United States to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. At no time since Mauritanian independence when our two countries established relations has this relationship been warmer, nor have the incentives to cooperate in the pursuit of common interests ever been stronger.
The people of the United States have been both moved and inspired by Mauritania’s bold decision to seize democracy, redress historic injustice and lay the foundation for a peaceful and prosperous future. In that endeavor, they may be sure that they enjoy the friendship of the American people and the support of the American government.
My wife, Nora Jean, and I are happy to return to the African continent which has never failed to delight us during our years of service here. We relish the opportunity to experience a land and a people that for countless generations have served as an enduring link between Sub-Saharan Africa and the Mediterranean world and beyond. We look very much forward to serving our compatriots here and to earning the respect and friendship of the people of Mauritania.
