Ambassador's remarks

Ambassador's remarks at donation of sewing machines ceremony

Madame Secretary of State for Women’s Affairs
Mr. Chief of Staff of the State Secretariat
Madame Directors of the Centers
Ladies and Gentlemen

It is a great pleasure for me to be among you today for this donation ceremony for the women’s training centers under the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.  This donation of 130 manual sewing machines is the result of the good partnership which exists between us and the cooperation which exists between the Minister and the United States Embassy in Mauritania.  This donation will be redistributed between the thirteen women’s training centers throughout the different regions of the country.  I am convinced that it will contribute to increase the quality and quantity of work of the women in those centers and will help to improve their earnings.

Ladies and Gentlemen

As you know, the promotion of women is vitally important to us because it allows our peoples to constantly progress in an environment of liberty, democracy, and tolerance.  Women today play a primary role in the education and training of societies and future generations.  Our presence here today is proof that the Mauritanians well understand this.

Honored guests

To assure the greatest participation of women is a responsibility incumbent upon us all, because the act of liberating all the creative forces within the different levels of society will give to future generations the necessary tools for their success in life.  And if one compares the women of Mauritania with women in other Muslim societies, I could say that Mauritanian women enjoy advantages that are rare to find in those societies.  This fact allows me to praise the attachment the Mauritanian woman has to her liberty and her fight to play a more important role in the life of her country.

I could not finish before warmly thanking the Minister of Women’s Affairs and all her staff for the efforts made in the preparation of this ceremony.

With complete wishes that our partnership and our cooperation will develop, I wish you full success.

I thank you.
