United States Supports Arts Management in Mauritania
In preparation for the Arab Arts Festival planned for March 2009 in Washington, DC the United States Department of State in collaboration with the Kennedy Center organized a symposium in Cairo from April 10 – 12, 2007 for the benefit of cultural directors from the twenty-two nations of the Arab League. The U.S. Embassy here sponsored Mauritania’s participation by paying the full costs for M. Ali Ould Marouani, chief conservator and director of the National Museum, to attend.
The objective of the symposium was to involve the greatest number of arts organizations in Arab countries in preparations for the aforementioned Arab Arts Festival. The symposium allowed participants to focus on the development of inventive solutions to numerous challenges facing artists and arts directors today, such as strategic planning, fundraising, and marketing.
