American Embassy in Mauritania announces relief package for flood victims in Mauritania
The American Embassy in Mauritania announced a relief package of 55,000 USD for the victims of flooding in southern Mauritania. The American Embassy donated 25,000 USD from USAID’s Administered International Disaster Assistance account to UNICEF to install sanitation facilities and to coordinate water and sanitation educational activities in the temporary camp of PK 7 for residents of Rosso who were displaced from their homes in the recent floods. An additional 30,000 USD has been donated by the Government of the United States of America to UNICEF to provide supplies to support water and sanitation activities for displaced residents throughout the flooded regions in southern Mauritania.
Dennis Hankins, Chargé d'Affaires at the American Embassy in Mauritania announced: “After receiving reports of the flood damage in southern Mauritania, the American Embassy and the United Nations dispatched a joint team to Rosso to conduct an assessment of the situation, and to determine where assistance was most needed. With cooperation from our partners at UNICEF, this aid donation will provide for more sanitary living conditions for flood victims until they can return safely to their homes.”
