Ambassador's remarks at donation ceremony ( December 07, 2005 at Nouakchott)

Your Excellency the Commissioner for Food Security
Your Excellency the Director General of the Friendship Port of Nouakchott
Ladies and Gentlemen:

I am so glad that we are, together, able to observe the delivery of this donation of wheat and rice, a gift of the American people to our Mauritanian friends. This assistance amounts to twelve thousand tons of good quality wheat and five thousands tons of rice donated by my country.  I am convinced that it will help those among the Mauritanian people that have been most affected during the last several years by the double disasters of drought and locusts.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The Government of the United States has often provided help and assistance to the people of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania at both bilateral and multilateral levels, and we will continue this tradition of applying the principle of benefit sharing, as we are convinced of the necessity of solidarity between the Mauritanian and the American peoples.  This is what we have emphasized on more than one occasion and what we realize today.

Commissioner,

Your presence with us today demonstrates the solidity of the relations existing between our two countries.  I am sure that this aid will be used in the best way.  I take this opportunity to thank you personally for the great efforts that you have made and continue to make as transparency marks all the work of your critically important Department.

I wish you full success and thank you.

Joseph LeBaron
Ambassador of the United States of America
Nouakchott, December 7, 2005.
