The Embassy of the United States of America in Nouakchott, Mauritania is pleased to invite you to watch and participate in discussions via the Internet of U.S. President Barack Obama’s speech at 10 AM on Thursday, June 4 in Cairo, Egypt.

President Obama’s visit to Egypt and his major speech in Cairo demonstrate his intention to actively engage with the people of the Muslim world.  This engagement began with the President’s announcement of this policy in his inaugural speech.  It has continued through his interview with Al Arabiya, his Nowruz message, and his speech and town hall in Turkey.

The June 4 speech in Cairo will outline President Obama’s personal commitment to engagement, based upon mutual interests and mutual respect.  He will discuss how the United States and Muslim communities around the world can bridge some of the differences that have divided them.  He will review particular issues of concern, such as violent extremism and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  And he will discuss new areas for partnership that serve the mutual interests of the people of the United States and those in Islamic countries.

We invite you to watch or listen to President Obama’s speech live at 10 AM Nouakchott-time on June 4, 2009.  It will be broadcast on a number of television stations, including Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya, Al Hurra, BBC Arabic, BBC World, and CNN International.  It will also be available on the radio with the BBC World Service and Radio Sawa.  Before, during, and following the speech, we also invite you to join us on the Internet at http://www.america.gov/obama_cairo.html, http://www.youtube.com/VOAVideo, and http://twitter.com/ObamaSpeech for a webcast of the event and a place to share your thoughts.
