Official Call for Proposals to Respond to the Drought Crisis in the Sahel(Jan 9, 2012)

The United States has launched an official call for proposals to respond to the drought crisis in the Sahel. The USAID-funded “Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET)” projects insufficient food access among the poorest segments of the population in affected areas including Mauritania. USAID, through its Bureau of Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Affairs, is prepared to respond to the serious humanitarian situation in the region through activities that focus on protecting assets, preserving livelihoods, and strengthening household and community resiliency to food security shocks.  For more information on proposal submission please refer to the USAID Emergency Food Security Program Statement: http://www.usaid.gov/our_work/humanitarian_assistance/ffp/apsamend4.pdf. For general information on USAID assistance in Mauritania, please contact Melanie Thurber at ThurberMD@state.gov.
