Expert Addresses Democracy, Governance, and Development

Professor Christophe Aubin-Nury, expert in finance and international economic affairs and guest speaker under the auspices of the U.S. government’s Africa Regional Services, presented a special lecture this evening at the Hotel Novotel on the interaction between democracy, good governance, and economic development.  Numerous business, political, and civil leaders, as well as journalists, attended. After the formal presentation, participants engaged in a lively question-and-answer period and exchanged ideas and opinions.

The event was co-sponsored by the Embassy and the American-Mauritanian Business Council.  It was the first in a series of presentations that Mr. Aubin-Nury will give this week in Nouakchott on the same subject.

Mr. Aubin-Nury is here as part of the Embassy’s continuing efforts to support the democratic transition now underway in Mauritania.
