Embassy Sponsors Workshop for Independent Press

Ambassador Charles H. Twining, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Mauritania, presided this afternoon at a ceremony to mark the end of a 4-day long workshop for twenty journalists of the independent press. The workshop on “Roles and Responsibilities of the Press in a Democracy,” helped the participants to better familiarize themselves with the contract between the journalist and the public, professional ethics, and techniques to be used in their daily work.

The workshop, first of its kind, was led by George Kazolias, an American journalist and master trainer with more than 30 years of experience.

The workshop was part efforts undertaken by the United States of America to contribute to the success of the democratic process in Mauritania.
