The United States gives $5 million for drought assistance
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Food for Peace agreed to provide an initial 5 million dollars in response to this year’s drought in Mauritania. USAID funded the NGO World Vision $2 million to assist the Kankossa area in the Assaba region.
The U.S. Embassy’s Charge d’Affaires, Robert Lane, attended the launching ceremony of World Vision’s Kankossa Emergency Assistance Program (KEAP) on March 19. Additionally, the World Food Program received an initial $3 million to contribute to their emergency response in Mauritania.
