Embassy Commemorates
World Press Freedom Day

Ambassador Joseph LeBaron hosted a dinner for the Mauritanian press corps at his residence this evening, May 3, to mark the observance of World Press Freedom Day.

Minister of Communications Mr. Cheikh O. Ebbe as well as many other well-known journalists attended the dinner.  In his opening speech, Ambassador LeBaron noted the attachment of the American people to liberty and, in particular, the liberty of expression.

Participants heard remarks by the Minister of Communication followed by two presentations made by colleagues who had traveled recently to the United States under Embassy-sponsored exchange programs.
