U.S. Improves Health, Education, Food Security in Mauritania

Ambassador Joseph LeBaron presided today at a signing ceremony to award grants amounting to $80,000 to seven Mauritanian NGOs. The grants are part of the Embassy’s Special Self-Help Program and will finance several humanitarian assistance projects such as construction of classrooms and wells, equipment purchases, and improvement of food security.

The Mauritanian NGOs benefiting from this aid and the projects to be financed are:

The Development Association of Adrar:  New wells 

Islamic Complex: Construction of two classrooms and purchase of equipment for literacy training

Outskirts of the World: Gardening project to improve food security and an irrigation pump    

Hsey Baala Community: A new well for the community

Union of Mauritanian Students: Equipment for the union office

Social Solidarity and Assistance for Aged Persons: Grinding mill to make flour

Islamic Cultural Grouping: Repairs to and improvement of water reservoir
