Ramadan Message from Ambassador Powell

August 1, 2012

As the U.S. Ambassador to Mauritania and on behalf of President Obama and the entire American community living in Mauritania I would like to offer my best wishes to Muslims across the country and around the world, Ramadan Kareem! The observance of Ramadan by more than six million Muslims who have made America their home illustrates how the United States respects and honors Islam, as it does people of all faiths. The Iftars hosted at the White House, our State Department, and embassies around the world are just one way in which we express our appreciation for the contributions of our Muslim friends and neighbors everywhere who nurture and support our common human heritage.  May this month of blessings be a time of contemplation and celebration for the more than one billion Muslims observing it all over the world.  My Ramadan wish is for lasting peace and prosperity between our two countries and peoples. Ramadan Kareem and Eid Mubarak!
