Embassy Hosts Iftaar Fast-Breaking in Honor of Ramadan

In honor of the holy month of Ramadan, the United States Embassy in Mauritania hosted a special Iftaar dinner for members of the Nouakchott community. The event was attended by members of the government, religious leaders, civil and political leaders, and members of the press.

In remarks, Chargé d’Affaires Steven Koutis observed that Ramadan marks the month during which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohamed and is a time for reflection, prayer, and purification of body and soul. It also marks a time to remember the less fortunate and help them.  The Chargé recognized the important role played by American Muslims in American society and the importance that Americans attach to freedom of religion.
