The Embassy has received information that protests are currently taking place in the vicinity of Radio Mauritanie/National Assembly and the University of Nouakchott towards the market on Gamal Abdel Nasser Avenue.

Another demonstration is scheduled for today, 1400hrs, at the Ancienne Maison des Jeunes (Youth House).

Please avoid the above locations and be alert for other protests that make take place this weekend.

The Department of State continues to monitor security conditions overseas and, as always, will promptly disseminate information affecting the safety of Americans abroad through its consular information program.  These documents are available on the Department’s Internet website at http://travel.state.gov.
