The U.S. Embassy has received reports of gunfire in Nouakchott, particularly in the northwest quadrant of the city. Authorities indicate that the gunfire is related to police searching for an escaped terrorist. The U.S. Embassy urges American citizens to remain in their homes tonight and not go out.
American citizens should stay current of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times. American citizens are also urged to register with the U.S. Embassy. They can do so in person or at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/.
