The Embassy wishes to inform the American community in Mauritania that the Consular Section is limiting its regular services until June 2007.  The Embassy will continue to provide American Citizen Services by appointment only.  You may call (222) 525-2660/2663, 525-1141/45 or 525-3038 (ext. 4551/4553) during Embassy business hours for an appointment.  In case of emergency, you may call the Embassy Duty Officer at 662-8163, or the Embassy guard post at 525-3288.

Walk-in visa services will be suspended during the same period.  The Embassy will provide emergency visa services by appointment.  You may call (222) 525-2660/2663, 525-1141/45 or 525-3038 (ext. 4551/4553) during Embassy business hours for an appointment.  Applicants are warned that they may be refused an appointment during this period.   Applicants are reminded that other U.S. embassies may accept the applications from aliens who are physically present in the embassy's consular district but not resident.   Applicants should check the embassy's website for instructions on applying for a visa.
 
U.S. citizens in Mauritania are also encouraged to register and to obtain updated information on travel and security in Mauritania at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy at rue Abdallaye, Nouakchott, telephone (222) 525-2660/2663, 525-1141/45 or 525-3038 (ext. 4551/4553); fax 525-1592; or email ConsularNKC@state.gov.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet site at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Cautions, Public Announcements and Travel Warnings can be found.  Americans in Mauritania who have not registered their presence with the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott are urged to register via the Internet through the State Department’s travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov.
